In Case Someone In Your Family Is Detected Of Cancer, It Doesn't Mean That You Would Too
Misconceptions and wrong ideas about cancer can lead to needless worry and even hinder diagnosis and treatment decisions. To make sure that this doesn’t happen, I will attempt to dispel some myths with facts.
FACT 2:
In case someone in your family is detected of cancer, it doesn’t mean that you would too.
Cancer is caused by harmful changes (mutations) in genes and only about 5-10% of cancers are actually caused by harmful mutations that are inherited from a person’s parents. The remaining 90-95% of cancers are caused by mutations that happen during a person’s lifetime. These mutations are a result of ageing and exposure to environmental factors such as tobacco smoke and radiation.
