Sickle Cell Anaemia
Sickle Cell Anaemia, also known as Sickle Cell Disease, is a condition that affects the red blood cells. Normally, our red blood cells are flexible and round, and they move easily through our blood vessels. In Sickle Cell Anaemia, the red blood cells become rigid and sticky, and are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These irregularly shaped cells get stuck in some blood vessels slowing or blocking the flow of blood and oxygen to parts of our body.
